As part of a consultation launched by the SNCF during the summer of 2014, following the acquisition of trains from other regions (Alsace and Nord Pas de Calais), Safra and SIP joined forces in order to offer the following services :
-Bodywork renovation of twenty-seven 73500 trains
-Application of a new varnished film coating
The 73500 are 28-metre-long railcars powered by 2 diesel engines and perfectly suited to the difficulties of transporting passengers in a region such as the Limousin (many rural areas, non-electrified tracks and the convergence of many lines in the direction of Limoges).
Work started on 8th June 2015. One of the major challenges of this project is working jointly with SIP in a totally open environment, carrying out both sanding and painting. The front blue arches are also to be repainted and lacquered (see photo below).
This is a perfect illustration of a renovation project within the railway sector combining the skills of two companies and meeting the specific requirements of the Limousin regional council.
